Four original watercolour prints on 100% organic cotton waffle weave. Made to use, made to love.
This Tomato print started with tomatoes I grew myself - picked with my kids, eaten at home, the same ones you'd find piled up at a summer market. I painted it from that, wanting the print to feel as ripe and unhurried as the real thing.
Designed and hand-painted in the UK (by me), then digitally printed onto 100% organic cotton waffle weave at a certified facility in China. Every tea towel is washed, dried, folded, and packed by me here at home, then walked to the post office myself.
The waffle weave is highly absorbent and surprisingly soft on the hands - the kind of tea towel that earns a permanent spot on the rail rather than the back of a drawer.

I wanted to move the classic tea towel check away from anything machine-made and formal. I really respect how a check is actually woven - yarn by yarn - but I wanted to paint one that felt free rather than precise. The colours came from dad's holiday shirts, picnic blankets, tablecloths flapping on a washing line, that Indian summer feeling - I just let the brush go loose and see where it landed.

Paisley is a shape I love painting - centuries old, but I wanted to make it feel modern and relaxed. I worked freehand, flicking the brush about, sometimes with intention and sometimes just letting the paint go where it wanted on wet paper. The result is soft, feathery curves rather than anything too precise.

I grow strawberries myself, mostly so I can eat them the second they're ripe (before my children get to them first). There's something about the taste of an English summer - Wimbledon, warm from the plant, with sugar or cream, or just smooshed into toast - that I wanted to paint. This print is loose, hand-painted watercolour, full of life rather than anything too precise.
